About Us

South Bay Alliance Association, Inc. is a non-profit organization building a coalition of the LGBT community and our allies for social networking, business promotion, and political awareness in South San Diego County.

SBA began in the Fall of 2006 with a small group of long time LGBT South Bay residents at the instigation of Mitch Doty-Cabrera. The intitial executive committee included Dae Elliott and John Acosta as Co-Chairs, Marci Bair as Secretary, and Craig Knudson as Treasurer.

The 2008-2009 executive committee was chaired by Dae Elliott with Marci Bair as Vice-Chair, Craig Knudson as Treasurer, and Lori Grady as Secretary. During this time, South Bay Pride was moved to the Memorial Park location, expanded to a music fest while South Bay Alliance also expanded its internet support of the community by developing their "Friends of the Community" listing, Health and Drug information websites. In the spring of 2009, SBA moved from a non-profit association towards our 501(3)(c) non-profit corporate status.

Since its inception, this small group has grown having an outreach of over 1,100 supporters. Our South Bay Pride celebration has grown from the original 2006 event attended by about 200 to over 1,400 attendees 2009 with an expect 2,000 attending in 2010.

South Bay Alliance has planning meetings (open to the public) the first Monday of of each month at the South Bay Fish and Grill. The meeting starts officially at 6:00pm but we show up at 5:30 for drinks and appetizers. Meetings are open and there are volunteer opportunities on all the planning committees.

Four major activities are held each year. South Bay Pride at Memorial Park in Chula Vista is held during the month of August (see last years program and this year's web site). Sponsor and vending opportunities available. Three get togethers are held during March, May, and October as fund raisers for South Bay Pride. Enjoy an outing with friends and allies. Business opportunities for vendor tables available.

In addition to updates and newsletters, Business listings are available on our "Friends of the Community" web page providing companies that donate and support South Bay Alliance's goals a way of letting the South Bay LGBT and friends community know of their support of our community.
